EarthLink and Verizon Sign New Agreement to Broaden High-Speed Internet Footprint

New access agreement enables EarthLink to offer service to over 6.5 million additional households in Verizon's markets

ATLANTA and NEW YORK, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EarthLink, Inc. (Nasdaq: ELNK), a leading national Internet service provider, and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) announced today a joint marketing agreement that will enable EarthLink to expand its high-speed Internet footprint in Verizon's territory.

"Our new agreement with Earthlink is another step in our overall strategy to expand our national high-speed footprint," said Garry Betty, EarthLink's president and chief executive officer. "With EarthLink High Speed, customers have access to a compelling line of exclusive protection tools that enhance their Internet experience by controlling spam, pop-ups and spyware."

Earthlink is employing Internet protocol technology that ties together its Internet backbone services with its DSL network to streamline the delivery of advanced services to a growing population of broadband users.

Peter Castleton, executive director -- broadband services for Verizon said, "Verizon is the first Internet service provider to benefit from a broadband traffic aggregator service that Earthlink is using to provide end-to- end broadband service. This allows Verizon to leave the task of assembling individual network components to Earthlink."

As a result of the new agreement, EarthLink will have the ability to utilize Verizon's broadband infrastructure to offer its service to an additional 6.5 million households, expanding its market presence to 73 cities within Verizon's markets. EarthLink expects to begin widening its coverage in existing markets such as New York, Boston and Washington, DC, and introducing service in new markets including Buffalo and Poughkeepsie, NY and Scranton, PA during the second and third quarters of 2004.
