New DSL customers

Australia's number two telco Optus says it has attracted 23,000 customers to its DSL broadband service since it was launched on March 1, 2004.

DSL is broadband via the home phone line, whereas cable broadband gives internet access through a special cable.

Previous to March 1 this year, Optus only offered broadband through cable.

OptusNet's DSL customers now total 23,000 while its cable customers total 162,000.

A total of 36,000 new broadband customers have been added since the end of March this year.
