Scams taking advantage of job seekers proliferate on the Internet

Job seeker, beware. Internet scams are proliferating and job seekers are being targeted at an increasing rate. Scam artists are seeking your money and your personal financial information. According to the Internet Crime Complaint Center - a cooperative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National White Collar Crime Center - the number of complaints has skyrocketed, from 75,000 in 2002 to 120,000 in 2003.

The scams range from false job postings designed to obtain credit card or social security numbers to "work-at-home" business opportunities that never result in profit for the victim. Even the most respected and well-known job boards (including Monster.com) have been affected.
