(Nasdaq: ELNK ), a leading national Internet service provider (ISP), has purchased additional Level 3 colocation services. The new agreement significantly expands the amount of colocation space that EarthLink occupies in multiple Level 3 facilities throughout the United States. EarthLink, which has more than five million subscribers, purchased approximately 2,400 square feet of (3)Center Colocation space, where EarthLink will install its own servers and other network equipment. In addition to colocation services, Level 3 supplies EarthLink with managed modem, private line, wavelength and high-speed Internet access services. "We selected Level 3 because the company's colocation services give us access to our own national backbone," said Steve Dean, vice president of EarthLink's Network Group. "That access, combined with a strong relationship that's been developed over the years, made Level 3 a natural choice for our expansion."
